Why Saratoga Springs is the Perfect Summer Getaway in 2020

Saratoga Springs is one of the most popular places for a summer getaway in New York — and it’s easy to see why. Saratoga Springs is one of America’s earliest resort destinations. Now, our city remains a relaxing, year-round retreat.

We could all use a bit of an escape, now more than ever. As we adjust to this “new normal” in summer 2020, consider planning a relaxing getaway to Saratoga Springs. Here’s why we know you’ll love it.

Visit the Saratoga Spa State Park

One of our favorite outdoor attractions is the sprawling Saratoga Spa State Park. The park’s public buildings are currently closed, but the scenic nature trails remain open!

The perfect introduction to Saratoga Springs is a pleasant stroll along Geyser Creek. It’s also one of the easiest trails in the park. So pick any walking trail and enjoy admiring the park’s architecture, peaceful babbling brooks, and lush forests.

Explore nearby hiking and biking trails

Saratoga Springs is one of the best places in New York to get out and explore the great outdoors. Saratoga Springs’ best hiking trails and natural attractions are a short drive away from our downtown hotel.

Looking for a moderate to challenging hike? The “100-mile view” from Prospect Mountain is well worth the effort. The 3.5-mile trail ends with panoramic views over Lake George Village and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains.

If you like to get around on two wheels, Saratoga County’s best biking trails wind along lush forests and quiet country roads.

Head to Saratoga Lake for water activities

There’s something so calming about being by the water… 12 minutes driving from Saratoga Arms, the scenic Saratoga Lake seems made for perfect summer outings.

Visit the family-owned Kayak Shak to rent a kayak or stand up paddleboard. If you’re looking for a little less activity, simply claim a hammock beside the lake and tuck into a good book.

Indulge in culinary delights

Downtown Saratoga Springs is home to a dynamic food scene — and Saratoga Arms is right at the heart of it all. Our central downtown location is on historic Broadway, rated by Travel + Leisure as one of “America’s Greatest Main Streets.”

Take a quick stroll in any direction and you’ll discover a host of local eateries, cafes, breweries, and restaurants. Choose from high-end, farm-to-table fare to easy comfort foods. The Saratoga dining scene has you covered no matter what it is you crave.

In summer 2020, our favorite local restaurants are adhering to official reopening guidelines and ready to welcome you back. Speak to us about indoor and outdoor restaurant seating options. Or let us know if you’d like assistance arranging takeout or delivery.

Practice your golf swing

Saratoga is a golfer’s paradise. We’re spoilt for choice with world-renowned golf courses and excellent driving ranges. Private and municipal golf courses are now open, including many of our favorite golf courses in Saratoga Springs.

Designed by Roger Rulewich, Saratoga National Golf Course offers 18 holes of award-winning championship golf, only a 10-minute drive from Saratoga Arms. Also 10 minutes from downtown, Saratoga Lake Golf Club overlooks the scenic Saratoga Lake. Tucked within the state park, Golf Digest rates Saratoga Spa Golf Course one of the best places in the country to play.
