Fri-Sat October October, 2019 Ghosts in the Yaddo Gardens Tour

Experience the spirits of the Yaddo Gardens on the New York State Haunted History Trail. Share in the spiritual intrigue from Native Americans, Edgar Allan Poe, the Trask family and other contemporary visitors! These docent-led tours are offered every Friday and Saturday in the month of October.

The festival’s signature event will celebrate the bounty of the region from the Hudson Valley to the Adirondacks with gourmet tastings, fine wines and local distillery and brewery tastingsa sculpture garden curated by The Hyde Collection featuring works by John Van Alstine, photographic works of art created from compostables by Terri-Lynn Pellegri and musical performances curated by Caffè Lena.

Sun October 6, 2019 Last Day of the Season for the General Philip Schuyler House

Restored by the National Park Service, Philip Schuyler’s house is a tangible reminder of the village of Saratoga’s founding family—now known as Schuylerville, having been renamed for the Schuyler family in 1831. Throughout Philip’s life and since, this house has been the destination of many visitors, some of whom were famous citizens. George Washington (godfather of daughter Catherine Schuyler), son-in-law Alexander Hamilton (who married daughter Elizabeth Schuyler), Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the Marquis de Lafeyette visited this house, to name a few. Now, following in their footsteps, tens of thousands of people from all over the world continue to learn about the general, the visionary, and the man who was Philip Schuyler.

Thu October 10, 2019 Brown Bag Lunch Series: Saratoga's Urban Renewal

City Supervisor Matthew Veitch will discuss the City’s Urban Renewal Program, including the origins of the program, how it was executed and how it shaped the modern City of Saratoga Springs. Rarely seen photos of areas of the City before Urban Renewal will be shown. This program will be held at the Saratoga Springs Public Library.

Sat October 12, 2019 Interrupted Odyssey: Ulysses S. Grant and the American Indians

Join the last Grant Cottage Porch Program of the season. Contrary to previous works on President Grant, Mary Stockwell’s Interrupted Odyssey: Ulysses S. Grant and the American Indians argues that Grant had no intention of appointing missionaries to run the nation’s many reservations. Instead, he developed plans, with the help of his friend and first commissioner of Indian affairs, Ely S. Parker, himself a Seneca Indian, to place the executive branch and the army in charge of the Indian service.  He was determined to protect the tribes from the onrush of settlers and to make every Indian an American citizen.

The Home Made Theater company is the resident of the Spa Little Theater in the Saratoga Spa State Park. ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.

Each year, Fasig-Tipton holds three thoroughbred horse auctions in Saratoga Springs at the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion on East Avenue. Since its inception in 2012, The Saratoga Fall Sale has been a top destination for broodmares and weanlings – especially those foaled in New York.

Fri October 25, 2019 Batcheller Mansion Tour

Experience a first-person tour of this beautiful, historical mansion, led by guides acting as George and Catherine Batcheller. The entire Victorian experience takes about 90 minutes and allows participants to appreciate what it was like to live and be entertained in the house The New York Times called “Saratoga’s Crowning Glory.” Built at the beginning of the Gilded Age for a cost estimated at $100,000, construction on the Batcheller Mansion was rushed to completion in order to host a reception for President Grant. Eventually, it served as a boarding house and was abandoned a hundred years later in 1974. Owners since that time have dedicated significant amounts of money for the purpose of restoring the mansion to reflect its previous grandeur. Located one block off Broadway, on one of the most utilized routes to the track, the restored mansion became the unofficial emblem of the city.

PROJECT Trio is breaking down traditional ideas of chamber music. The genre-defying Trio is acclaimed by the press as “packed with musicianship, joy and surprise” and “exciting a new generation of listeners about the joys of classical and jazz music.” Presented at Caffe Lena, Saratoga’s storied music venue.

Tue October 29, 2019 Twilight Cemetery Tour: Greenridge Cemetery

Gloria May’s “Madness, Murder, Untimely Deaths, and Strange Coincidences” tour will get you in the spooky spirit with a rare opportunity to explore Greenridge Cemetery at dusk while discussing the historical and architectural background of the American rural cemetery movement and unearthing tales of Saratoga’s most notable residents.

Wed October 30, 2019 Halloween Ghost Tours: Canfield Casino in Congress Park

Is the historic Casino haunted? Take a  tour with staff and volunteers who tell their personal stories of paranormal experiences in the museum. In 2010 the paranormal investigators from the television show Ghost Hunters and their crew, TAPS investigated the building and drew their own conclusions to whom or what walks the halls. Come see for yourself!

Thu December 5, 2019 Victorian Streetwalk

Broadway closes for four hours every holiday season for the annual Victorian Streetwalk. Shops stay open late, there is live music throughout downtown, vendors and entertainers line the street and Santa comes to town!
