Fall in upstate New York is a breathtaking display of fiery reds, golden yellows, and rich oranges. Crisp mornings and sunny afternoons make it the perfect season for exploring historic Saratoga Springs and the nearby Adirondacks. Whether you’re strolling along Broadway, sipping cider at a local orchard, or taking in sweeping mountain views, autumn offers an unforgettable getaway. At the heart of it all is Saratoga Arms, your home base for relaxation, farm-to-table dining, and the best fall experiences Saratoga has to offer.
Day 1: Arrival & Mineral Springs
Welcome to Saratoga Springs! Arrive at 497 Broadway and check in to Saratoga Arms to begin your three-day (or more) fall escape. Don’t miss one of our famous chocolate chip potato chip cookies at check-in-a guest favorite.
After you’re settled into one of our Rooms & Suites, take a self-guided mineral springs tour in Saratoga Spa State Park. In the mid-1800s, bathing in and drinking the mineral waters was considered a health treatment, and today you can still enjoy a soak at The Roosevelt Baths, a one-of-a-kind spa experience that defines the Spa City.
Once relaxed, stroll through downtown for dinner at a local favorite. We recommend Chianti il Ristorante, Seneca, or Salt & Char-all within walking distance of Saratoga Arms. After dinner, return to the hotel for a nightcap during our evening Cocktail Hour.
Day 2: History, Horses & Harvest
Start your morning with a walk along North Broadway, where grand “summer cottages” once hosted families during the Gilded Age. Download a brochure from the Heritage Area Visitors Center to enhance your stroll and soak up local history.
Return to Saratoga Arms for a hearty, chef-prepared farm-to-table breakfast on the porch. Locally sourced eggs, maple syrup from nearby farms, and honey from Ballston Lake Apiaries set the tone for the day.
Next, head to the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame to explore the rich history of thoroughbred racing. Don’t miss the short film What It Takes: Journey to the Hall of Fame-a perfect introduction to Saratoga’s equestrian heritage.
For lunch, grab a bite from Mrs. London’s Bakery before driving to the Saratoga Battlefield. Explore a scenic driving loop or take a short hike with the audio tour that brings Revolutionary War history to life.
No fall trip is complete without apple picking. We love Saratoga Apple but there are other local farm to gather apples and enjoy warm cider donuts. These seasonal traditions are musts for any upstate getaway.
Back at Saratoga Arms, sip a cocktail by the fireplace in our inviting common room before heading downtown for dinner at Hamlet & Ghost. End the evening with a live performance at Universal Preservation Hall, one of Saratoga’s most impressive venues.
Day 3: Adventure in the Adirondacks
Fuel up with another Saratoga Arms breakfast before setting off north into the Adirondacks. Hiking options range from beginner-friendly walks like Hadley Mountain to more advanced climbs such as Buck Mountain overlooking Lake George. Pack gourmet sandwiches from Putnam Market for a trail picnic.
If hiking isn’t on your list, take a ride aboard the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway for a 90-minute scenic journey through the Southern Adirondacks. This fall foliage train ride offers postcard-worthy views of the changing leaves.
Return to Saratoga Arms for an afternoon rest in your luxurious room. In the evening, treat yourself to dinner at 15 Church, a favorite of both locals and our guests. Cap off the night with a glass of bubbly at Bocage Champagne Bar, just steps away from the hotel.
Day 4: Farewell to Saratoga
On your final morning, linger over breakfast at Saratoga Arms before exploring Saratoga’s boutique shops. Stop into Impressions of Saratoga, Silverwood, or Lifestyles for unique gifts, clothing, and Saratoga-themed treasures.
Wrap up your getaway with a casual lunch at Druthers Brewing Company before heading home. You’ll leave already planning your next visit to Saratoga Springs—and your next stay at Saratoga Arms.
